Overview

What me and my friend made!

What is this?

This was my first proper project at university! We were put into groups of two, and tasked with making a small game. If I’m being honest, it felt like a test to see what we could already do going in.

I’d also say that it was a success, because me and my partner got an A for the project!

What did we make?

We made a 2.5D (environment was 3D but movement was restructed to 2D) platformer/shooter, where you had to kill all the enemies in the level before continuing to the next. You could only shoot downwards, which also doubled as your jump mechanic.

Platforms would be randomly generated, and enemies would be spawned on them, so you would have to navigate the structure while dodging and killing the enemies. For this, I wrote the platform generator and enemy spawning parts, while my group partner handled the enemy navigation, and ensured the enemies jumped from platform to platform correctly.

Looking Back

While I imagine that, with more time and tinkering, we could make something better; I’m happy with what we created. The lecturers seem to agree, given our grade.

It was both me and my group partner’s first time using the Unity Engine. For a first project, this isn’t too bad.

It was a really great experience and I got to learn a lot from it. I also got to meet and work with a very talented individual, who is now one of my best friends! :D
